Villafranca finishes the league in eighth place with 43 points, after being the best team in the second round along with Azuaga. For its part, Moralo let victory slip away in the final minutes, earning a draw that, however, allows it to finish third and have the advantage of playing the second leg at home in the first round of the promotion phase.
The match was dominated by the visiting team, which enjoyed the best chances. In the 21st minute, a lateral free kick taken by César García was headed by Víctor Martínez to score the first goal of the match.
Emilio Gil’s squad continued to insist and do well to get another goal. Already at the end of the first half, Buben took advantage of a communication failure between Villafranca’s centre-backs to hunt down a ball in the area and managed to increase his team’s lead on the scoreboard.
Villafranca did not have good opportunities until the 66th minute, when an individual play by Julio Rengel offered his team the opportunity to close the gap. An opportunity that youth player David Trasmonte did take advantage of, who after a good shot managed to score his first goal with the yellow shirt very late on.
In the next play, Villafranca managed to force a corner after a good cross from Gabi. In that corner kick, taken by Javi Pérez’s silky left foot, Marcos prevailed over the visiting defense to equalize and unleash madness at the Villafranca de los Barros Municipal.
The stadium, which had the best entry of the season, was thus able to say goodbye with a better taste to its captain, Martínez, who is saying goodbye to football and the team of his life.
